Ian James

Birthday: 22 July
Birthplace: Epsom, UK
Residence: Phoenix, AZ

Hailing from Epsom, UK Ian James is one of the most successful and versatile race drivers of his day. Widely recognized as a top-notch endurance and road racing professional, James won the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) P2 championship, Rookie of the Year honors, and three victories including the 12 Hours of Sebring in 2004.

James is one of only a handful of race drivers who has won races in the Prototype, GT, Grand Sport and Sport touring classes. And he needs no introduction to Panoz and Tom Milner, having driven for Tom Milner and PTG Inc. when it fielded the Panoz Esperante in 2009 and the Panoz Abruzzi in 2010 and 2011. James will campaign the No. 50 Panoz Avezzano.

Tom Milner

Tom Milner’s motorsports career spans more than 40 years with racing series successes from IMSA and SCCA to NASCAR and Grand-Am.

Milner’s motorsports career began in the 1960s when he and the late Bill Scott formed Bill Scott Racing, which from 1964 to 1984 amassed 10 Formula Vee, Super Vee and Formula Ford championships. In the early 1980s Milner and Scott purchased West Virginia’s Summit Point Raceway (currently Summit Point Motorsports Park), improving the race track throughout the years they owned the property.

In 1988 Milner formed Tom Milner Racing and raced Ford Mustang Probe, Spice SE89p, and Intrepid GTP prototype machinery in IMSA. He also competed in the 1994 NASCAR Busch Grand National Series with a Chevrolet.

In 1995 Milner launched PTG Racing Inc., partnering with BMW North America to develop and race the BMW M3 in IMSA. PTG and BMW raced for 11 seasons, scoring titles in IMSA, the United States Road Racing Championship, and the American Le Mans Series.

Milner and PTG Racing began racing its first Panoz in 2007, competing with two Panoz Esperante GTLM race cars already competing in the GT2 class. Milner and PTG also developed and tested the Panoz Abruzzi Spirit of Le Mans race car in 2010-2011. It competed and was immediately successful in ALMS races at Sebring and Mosport, running at the front of the pack in only its second race.

Milner joined Team Panoz Racing in late 2016 to oversee the company’s two-car Panoz Avezzano GTS racing efforts in the 2017 Pirelli World Challenge series.
